WASA Games: Army Display Of Rich Cultural And Social Team Spirit

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, says Nigerian Army complied with all measures and policies put in place by the Federal Government to ensure transparency and accountability.

Buratai stated this at the Arakan Barracks in Apapa, Lagos during the 2018 Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities, popularly referred to as WASA.

In the year under review, Buratai said he established the Directorate of Audit and Financial Management to reinvigorate the Nigerian Army’s internal financial control system aimed at improving synergy between available resources and operational impact.

The Chief of Army Staff, who was represented by the Corps Commander Signals, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Mohammed, also said that several field training exercises were also successfully conducted last year in various parts of the country.

Buratai said, “It is worthy of note that the Nigerian Army is not only striving to improve on the current status but has equally complied with all measures and policies put in place by the Federal Government to ensure transparency and accountability.

“In this vein, I established the Directorate of Audit and Financial Management, among other units. The Directorate is to reinvigorate the Nigerian Army’s internal financial control system aimed at improving synergy between available resources and operational impact.

“Several field training exercises were also successfully conducted last year in various parts of the country. These exercises have significantly gone a long was in curbing and reducing criminality and other nefarious activities across the country.”

Earlier, the Army Chief of Accounts and Budget, Maj.-Gen. Adebola Bakare, who declared the event open, said WASA was meant to take officers away from their internal activities to interact socially among themselves.

“WASA is among the rich traditions of the Nigerian Army which promotes team spirit and confidence within and outside the barracks community. It is held annually to signify the successful training cycle for the preceding year and usher in the New Year. It is done with displays of cultural dances from different parts of the country,” he said.

Bakare said that the Nigerian Army Finance Corps has every reason to celebrate as it successfully completed all its training exercise scheduled for 2018.

The event which witnessed cultural displays from all the geo-political zone, had in attendance the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Sanni Yusuf, among others.
