Rivers State Police Command Rescues Four Kidnapped Victims, Five Hoodlums Killed In The Process

The Rivers state police command has rescued four kidnapped victims along Ubima Road in Ikwerre Local government area of River’s state. One of the rescued victims Miracle Okeke who spoke on behalf of the ailing other victims said they were kidnapped on the 18th of March 2019 along Ubima road after their Driver took the inner Road claiming that he does not want police disturbances for carrying mattress on top of the fourteen seater Bus Conveying them from port Harcourt to Onitsha.

She said the passengers in the vehicle had a heated argument with the Driver for diverting to the lonely Road known for various kidnap of passengers but the stubborn Driver kept to his gut and few kilometers into the Road, some boys stormed out from the Bush and threw a Long stick on the road which forced the driver to stop the vehicle and ran into the Bush leaving the passengers to their fate. Miracle added that the boys numbering four with sophisticated weapons ordered them to come out from the vehicle and took them through more than four Kilometers into the thick Forest until they came to a hamlet and tied them up and started demanding for Ransom from their relations using their phones. 

She noted that while the negotiations for ransom was ongoing, the kidnappers insisted that their bus had a politician daughter in the vehicle and wanted to know who that was? She said along the lines Nine persons were able to meet up with their ransom demand and freed but no one came to their rescue as their families were too poor to raise any money.

She said as soon as they noticed the armed kidnappers were discussing on how to go and engage the police they quickly freed themselves and took another direction where they later saw police officers who rescued them unhurt.

The Rivers state police command while displaying the corpse of the hoodlums who engaged police in the shootout at Uzohia and Ubima,  the state police public relation officer Nnamdi Omoni told newsmen that the command in the early hours of 28th of March 2019, in a joint operations by the Men of the IGP monitoring Unit and Anti kidnapping Unit led by the Commander DCP Bennett Igweh in sting operations stormed the forest at Uzioha and Ubima in Ikwerre local government area where four kidnap victims: namely, Cecilia Nnamdi, F’. Chucks Daniel M”. Miguel Jerry F” and Miracle Okeke F” who were kidnapped since on the 18/3/19 alongside 9 others earlier released were traveling in Tracas bus from Port Harcourt to Onitsha when they were kidnapped and taken to the forest.

Omoni continued ” the kidnappers who were still keeping the remaining four victims waiting for Ransom met their Waterloo this afternoon they engaged the police in a shootout in the forest resulting in the death of the five of them while others escaped with gunshot injuries, he said the four victims were rescued unhurt and had been debriefed and handed over to their families.

Items recovered from the criminal include

1). One AK47 riffle

2). One Magazine loaded with 25 rounds.

3). One locally made pistol

4). 8 Live cartridges

5). 2 pump action guns

6). 2 Machete’s

He said the commissioner of police Usman Belel wishes to assure the good people of Rivers state that command is committed to fighting crimes and appeals to residents of the state to be more security conscious and report any person with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or call the following numbers
