A middle aged mother, Choice Chiwekpe whose two years’ daughter was defiled by a neighbor is demanding for an investigation into the ‘no case advice’ by Director of Public Prosecution DPP that discharged and acquitted the suspect. Our correspondent gathered that based on the advice by DPP to a magistrate court in Port Harcourt, the suspect Samuel Amadi about thirty years of age was discharged and acquitted last week Thursday. Our correspondent also gathered that the suspect was granted bail on his first arraignment in court but due to the timely intervention of leadership of International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA in Rivers State the same court later declined jurisdiction and revoked the earlier bail and remanded him to prison custody and adjourned the matter to 7th May this year.
Mrs. Chiwekpe told our correspondent that she was surprised that in less than a week after the last adjourned date DPP advice came out and the case brought forward to Thursday last week without her knowledge or FIDA lawyers who had been representing her in court and the suspect was discharged and acquitted. The victim’s mother said she is convinced that the suspect has a case to answer contrary to the advice by DPP that he is innocent of the accusation. She said if nothing is done to correct the abnormal DPP advice, her life and that of her daughter will be in constant danger as she has no money to move out from where she lives.
Mrs. Choice Chiwekpe while narrating how her two years’ daughter was defiled by the suspect last year November at Rumukparali alleged that she escaped death after suspect Samuel Amadi allegedly sent thugs to kill her. She claimed the attempted murder took place three days after the suspect was granted bail by Ozuoba Police station in obio/akpor local government area. While handing over a picture of herself on hospital bed ‘’said the thugs beat her to stupor and left her for death but God rescued her through a good Samaritan who saw her at the bush path where her body was dumped and took her to the hospital. If the DPP does this to me then I would loose hope in the Judiciary with all the evidence, I submitted to them and doctors report’’ I truly can’t believe that this is happing because the suspects wife has been boosting to my hearing that they sell land and pay the judges so that they would release her husband and now this is happening’’
Meanwhile, chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers in Rivers State, Anthonia Osademe while speaking on the matter said her organization will get to the root of the ‘no case advice’ by DPP. She said contrary to what the so called DPP advice, the suspect has a case to answer because we proved our case with witnesses to show that the suspect committed the crime and also attempted to murder the complainant, FIDA is a law abiding organisation. We will get to the root of this matter’’ she added.
