No Need To Panic On The East West Road: Police Assures Commuters

by Anita Ogona

The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds in both social and conventional media, that a State of Emergency has been declared on the East West road, arising from the increase in criminal activities on the road and the call for commuters to use alternative routes.

This development is disturbing to the Command, hence the compelling need to state the true position.

In the light of the above, it has become necessary at this juncture to disabuse the minds of the public with regards to the statements being circulated and state as follows:

That the full import of the statement as released by the Command is not intended to cause panic or fear in the minds of the commuters but to assure and re-assure them of the preparedness of the Command to stem the tide of the criminal activities on the East/West road.

That the statement is a reflection and depiction of the proactive steps taken by the Command to urgently address the embarrassing trend and tackle the hoodlums headlong.

That in the wake of the attacks on the road, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Usman A. Belel, gave a marching order to the Heads of the Tactical and Intelligence Units to relocate to the area and ensure that the situation was brought under control in record time.

That as soon as this marching order was issued, the Command channeled all her energies, resources and attention to the area, to ensure that criminal activities in the area were neutralized, which is largely responsible for the fragile peace that is experienced in that axis now.

Once again, the Commissioner of Police, wishes to assure the good people of the State, that there is no cause for alarm, as we are on top of the situation and poised to tackle all the criminal elements in the State and make the State habitable for all.
