The immediate past chairman of Trade Union Congress TUC Chika Onuegbu said the labour movement in Nigeria recorded successes from all the struggles that lead to labour rights recognized as part of human rights.
He said the Trade Union made progress in addressing the working conditions of workers, abolition of Obnoxious laws and checkmated the Dictatorial tendencies of Government.
Also speaking on the challenges of the Labour movement, the state organizing secretary of the National union of Electricity Employees NUEE Innocent Lord Douglas said most workers in the private sector are denied rights to join unions and the opportunity to discuss improved worker’s welfare.
He said Long working hours without the payments of overtime in private sector are also a big challenge.
For his part The Nigeria civil service Union says the Union is waiting to receive alert of the new implemented minimum wage
The state chairman of NCSU Opu-oyibo Lilly west told our correspondent that the Union will demand for salary arrears if the new minimum wage is not effected in their April salary.
