The rivers state police command has paraded over forty suspects in connection to various crime ranging from kidnapping Armed robbery, Cultism and internet frauds.
Parading the suspects at police headquarters in Rivers state the commissioner of police USMAN BELEL said the command is intensifying efforts to rid the state of crimes smashing criminal hide outs and to bring crime to the barest minimum.
He said operative of the eagle crack squad acting on credible information smashed a gang of illegal arms dealers along Elele Alimini road in Emuoha LGA with 889 rounds of live cartridges sealed in a big sack and transported in a tricycle while going to supply it to the clients at EASTWEST road. He said those arrested are ISREAL AMADI 21 Years and Michael Okunu 35 Years,
He said in another onslaught the command headed by SP JUVENIS IWU arrested 21 kidnappers and armed robbers who in recent times are terrorizing the state and its environs, aged from 30 to 21 years old. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include
3 AK47 Riffles, 29 round of Live Ammunition’s, one local made pistol, one Assault Rifle, 6 Magazines, one locally made single barrel gun, 2 sacks of Marijuana, one cut to size Riffle, one dagger, a black Toyota Camry, with Reg no, KTU 415 AC. A RED TOYOTA CAMRY Reg: PHC308 AJ, A GREEN TOYOTA corolla Reg EEE390 AQ, A KIA RIO. Two military boots two military caps, ’he said the arrest of the occupants of the vehicle was sequel to revelations from kidnapped victims on the colors of car used to kidnap and transport them to the kidnapper’s den.
The CP continued ‘’he said the eagle crack squad acting on credible information stormed OMARELU in IKWERRE LGA and in a gun battle killed a Notorious armed robber and Kidnapper ThankGod Nwandiko AKA commander Bukky who is allegedly responsible for all the attacks and car hijacking in and around the Omarelu and Owerri Road. He said the police equally traced one Monday Nnaji AKA Eye de red at his IGBO ETECHE hide out where he allegedly engaged police in a gun battle and was killed by the police who also Recovered guns, charms and cutlasses from his camp, the deceased is said to be from Rumuodogo in Emuoha LGA
CP Balel said operative of the special anti-robbery squad arrested 8 men from various parts of the state and exhibits recovered from them include a Nissan jeep, one locally made shut gun, 60 lives cartridges, 68 rounds of live ammunition, three motor vehicle, two guns, two English pistols and 13 locally made pistols
He said police also arrested 5 notorious kidnapers operating in military camouflage, the leader of the gang, Olatunde Ganiyu is a dismissed military officer arrested with one locally made double barrel gun, assorted military uniforms, 2 live cartridges, 2 jack knives and a Toyota Camry car, the dismissed officer however told our correspondent that he was dismissed from the Army after an injury he sustained in his leg while fighting Boko Haram in the North East. He said he set up his gang to operate in Bunkering of petroleum products and denied ever kidnapping or robbing anyone.
He added that the police anti cultism unit arrested 10 persons from various location in the state, items recovered from them include one FMC Rifle, two Magazines, 30 rounds of live ammunition s, one locally made pistols large quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspects also denied robbing anyone but confessed to belonging to different cult groups
