The Rivers state police command says it has intensified efforts and strategy to reposition its personnel for optimum productivity as the command paraded 20 suspects for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery and car snatching.

The commissioner of police in Rivers state Usman Balel while parading the suspects to journalist at the command headquarters said the suspects were arrested from various local government in the state for crimes ranging from confessed cultism, kidnapping, armed banditry, snatching of phones and arms deal.

He said the police will sustain the onslaught against criminal until the state gets rid of all criminal elements.

Summary of suspects arrested include as follows

8 Suspected cultist arrested

3 kidnapper arrested

4 Armed robbers arrested

3 foiled armed robbery

2 AK47 Riffles recovered

14 locally made pistol recovered, 3 pump action 5 magazine,

55 live ammunition

82 cartridges recovered

3 vehicle recovered

10 rustled cows, chemical substance, rolls of cable, fake hundred dollar bills and different sets of handsets

Some of the criminal suspects confessed to the crime but several others denied knowledge of the crimes they were accused of the alleged cattle rustlers who spoke to East west reporters said the cows belonged to one among the five suspects paraded for cattle rustling. Others who confessed to the crimes said they buy stolen phones from the criminals who operates around Rumuola and GRA junction in port Harcourt, they said they entered into crimes due to unemployment in the state.

One of the rescued kidnapped victims JOY JOHNSON who was kidnapped on June 1st 2019 from her home in Eneka and was taken to a hideout in Igbo Etche spent four days in camp and was later released told our correspondent that she identified two of the suspect as they were not masked when they picked her up, she said they took ATM card and made all the withdrawals they wanted and demanded for four million naira ransomed but while she was waiting for her contacts to make payment of the 4 million naira ransomed, they armed thugs brought in a spiritualist who deals on body parts to buy her body parts for rituals when miraculous police raided the area and the boys went on the run she unmasked herself and was helped by a farmer to the main road before she was rescued.
