Over 400 indigent men, women and children from Okehi in Etche local government area have benefited from the ongoing three days’ free medical outreach put together by the federal commissioner of public complaints commission representing river state.
The Federal commissioner public complaints commission Marshall Israel while addressing the community chiefs, elders women and youth in Okehi, said the free medical outreach program is to give back to the society
He said the free medical outreach hopes to tackle the issues of self-medication and over indulgence to unprescribed drugs.
He said a man who have never begged for school before does not know what it means to beg for fees and not find likewise a man who has not begged for house rent wouldn’t also understand what it means to be homeless.
You can’t talk of poverty when you have never been poor. you can’t talk of unemployment when you have never been employed. You can’t talk of free medical when you have never been visited a chemist or pharmacy in the village looking for how and where to cure yourself. I have been through all of that because of my background and I vow to God that if this is the only thing I would be doing, I would continue to do it to give back to the poor.
I am not a rich man, I don’t house in port Harcourt, or my village, I am a tenant in port Harcourt and in the village I am still in my father’s house but I don’t know how many years I would live on earth. But the little years I would live on earth I am going to use it to impact lives, I pray that god should give me more opportunity to assist people
Some of the beneficiaries of the Free medical program told our correspondent that the free medical has afforded them the opportunity to seek medical help for the first time. They expressed joy over the gestures for Mr. Williams Nwagu, ‘’said the community and Etche people are happy for you people reaching us today, it’s a good effort and a relief for us, because some of us elders here if well attended to will have no need to continue to take local herbs that no one prescribed for us. Hence if I get my drugs here, what else or how else can I say thank you for this opportunity? May god bless you all for this huge relief.’’
For the community development Chairman of Okehi in Etche, Hon Iheme Israel, said ‘’I am over whelmed, because my people here die of Malaria, Headache, ulcer, cold and different kinds of small sicknesses, today they have the liberty to access health care free of charge, you see we have been seeing different things from politician but no one has bothered to ask us how we feel? This the first of its kind and we are very grateful to Hon Marshall Israel for making us proud, he is a true Son of Etche’’.
Mrs. Mercy said ‘’I have never seen this before, I want it more, if you know how my body was doing me, no money and this man bring the medicine to my door step, I am very grateful god will bless him to continue to do more for the sake of the poor people like us, if it’s the food now all the strong boys will pack everything they forget that old people and women needs to eat but you see how this one is going now? Its turn by turn, big people oh, small people everybody Sidon and they attend to you and check everything, see my drugs and my eye glasses, who would have given me this kind of thing before? No money anywhere. I thank this man from my heart’’.
