3 days after the remains of an unidentified man was cleared from a fire debris by Oginigba waterfronts no one has come to claim the body.
His identity is still not none to the authorities.
The Oginigba police said no one has come forward to demand or ask for a missing person since the charred body of middle aged man was cleared from the fire debris.
He called on residents to come whose adult male child or family member did not return home since Saturday to come forward to identify the charred remains to enable police continue investigation with the hope to get to the lady whose house was burnt down but left the male guest to burn to ashes and fled the community.
Some of the occupants of the shanties told our correspondent that if pictures are presented they could identify the man who they allege was a regular visitor to the single woman living besides them who is still at large. The single lady was identified as Esther Eka John but the identity of her male friend could not be ascertained as at press time.
Recall that an early morning fire destroyed properties worth thousands of naira as fire engulfed shanties along Oginigba waterfronts in Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State.
Some occupants of the shanties who escaped the inferno told our correspondent that the fire outbreak was caused by electrical appliance left unattended to by one of the occupant who is also at large
They said they lost all their life earnings and could not salvage a single property due to the intensity of the fire. And called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.
The paramount ruler of the area, Oginigba community Eze Gershon Odum expressed sadness over the inabilities of the state Fire services to respond to distress call
He said despite all their calls to the rivers state fire services and their nearness to the shell petroleum company and other companies close to the area none of the fire service team responded to the distress call even after promising to bring in the fire truck.
Eze Gershon Odum called on the rivers state fire services to live up to their mandate by improving their response time. He said the fire was put out by the efforts of the young men and women in the community who utilized different methods to combat the fire. He also regrets that one life was lost and the only person who could have given information to the identity of the man fled the community and called on the police to arrest the fleeing resident.
