Senator Douye Diri has won the People’s Democratic Party, PDP Bayelsa state primary election held in the early hours of today. The Senator Representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District Douye Diri emerged winner of the PDP governorship primaries. Douye Diri polled a total of 561 votes to beat 20 other contestants to clinched the ticket. Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC Ndutimi Alaibe came second with 365 votes while Businessman Keniebi Okoko came third with 142 votes.
Meanwhile the Governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress APC in Bayelsa will be conducted today with direct primary across the state.
The Returning Officer for the Governorship primaries of the APC and the Governor of Yobe State, Mai-Mala Buni confirmed this following the vacation of the court order that earlier disrupted it.
Buni, who spoke after meeting with the aspirants and major party stakeholders including the Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva and the former Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri said the process would be concluded within the time frame stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC have six aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket.
