With the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas sharing the Amadi Ama bridge, the rivers state government house less than five kilometers away, the Federal Road safety commission office less than six kilometers away, the Intel’s Camp a stone throw from the scene of an accident where a Camry saloon car plunged off Nkpogu bridge into a river at about nine PM on Monday evening but was not rescued until 11 am on Tuesday morning.
The corpse of the lady who was inside the Camry saloon car which plunged off Nkpogu bridge into a river besides the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas road, Port was recovered with residents almost hampering the rescue efforts as people thronged to the scene of the incident to get first hand picture suitable for social media than actually helping out.
The ill-fated car with the female passenger trapped in it was pulled out of the river with a crane belonging to Julius Berger with a seat belt strapped on but legs protruding from the glass widow.
The rescue workers mainly Red cross volunteers ensured that no one could get a glimpse of her corpse as the victim was quickly wrapped in body bag before been transported to the mortuary
Though the driver of the car survived the accident, its actual cause was not immediately known.
However, eyewitness around the area said that the vision of the driver might have been blurred by a Smokey truck directly in front of him and that the driver might have plunged into the rivers in a desperate attempt to steer off the truck. The unidentified driver was able to swim to safety but the female occupant drowned.
Before the rescue operation, the accident scene was condoned off and traffic diverted back to Amadi Flats, Rainbow Town in Trans Amadi through Nkpogu bridge as residents who thronged the scene of the incident took over the entire road watching and gazing at the rescue operation.
Eye witness also confirmed that the driver was said to be in an undisclosed hospital for medical attention while the body of the female occupant has been deposited at the morgue.
