The Inspector General of Police MOHAMMED ABUBAKAR-ADAMU has maintained that those who terrorize communities across the country will not know peace in the hands of Men of the Nigeria Police.
IGP ABUBAKAR-ADAMU however assured that any individual who genuinely repent and submit arms to security agencies will be forgiven of their past lives.
IGP ABUBAKAR-ADAMU who spoke when a group of repentant cult group in Ikwerre and Emohua Local Government came out to embrace peace and submitted some arms and ammunition commended the group and advised the repentant cults not to go back to their past live.
The IGP who was represented by Commander of Anti-Cultism Elele Unit of Rivers State Police Command, DSP YUSUF IDI encouraged the young men not to depend on government for white colour job but should engage themselves in miner job and small scale business to succeed in life.
He said ” I’m standing here on the capacity of the IGP, you will recall that IGP had early this month launched operation anti cultism, he has also directed that we use this kind of approach, so what we are doing here is in line with his directives, let me tell you all, I want to firstly commend those who have come out to renounce cultism for development to come into their communities, those who are not ready to come out, be ready for us, we will take the war to you anywhere you are,
“let me also advise you, you don’t have to wait for government work, you can start up small thing for yourselves, sell pure water and groundnut, you will succeed instead of taking the part of crime, I assured those of you who have submitted some of your arms, you are free, I commend the group who facilitated this, security is not one-man’s business, please let everyone help in their own way, thank you all.
Captain A. G ABUBAKAR who represented the garrison commander Elele at the event expressed the commitment of the military to combat the resurgence of violence attacks just as he commanded the repentant cult members for their bold steps and encouraged them never to go back to their farmer life style.
Captain Abubakar advised members of the communities where the repentant young men hail from to accept them and help them to live a new life.
The President General of Ikwerre-Etche Youth Forum, GIDEON ISAAC-OKPAKA who is the facilitator of the programme, appealed to security agencies not to declare war yet at cult group that could not come out today and give them till November to have change of mind, just as he urged those who came out not to fear.
ISAAC-OKPAKA said it was the vision of Ikwerre-Etche Youth Forum to ensure that peace and unity return to communities in the area and pledged to stand by the repentant cultists.
” it is our desire that our brother come out of forest and bushes in the name of hideouts, when they come out our mothers will go to farm freely, for those who have come out, thank you for your bold steps, I promise to stand by you all, those who did not come out, I can only appeal with the security agencies to give grace of one month, and thereafter, my group will remove our hands”.
PROMISE IMO who led the repentant Deybam cult group expressed mixed feelings over the absence of the rival cult gang just as he advised the government and security agencies to visit some of the communities used as hideouts and camps to fetch out some of the criminals hibernating there.
” in this peace movement that we come here today, we are surprise that we deybam came out and Iceleand did not come, we don’t know what is in their mind, we want government to visit some of the communities that is been used as hideout like Okirika where some of Iceland boys are hiding”.
Our Correspondent reports that some of the arms and ammunition submitted by the repentant cultists includes pump action guns AK47and cartridges were displayed at the peace and development programme held in Elele Alimini community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
