Suspected serial killer Gracious David west has made a u-turn in his murder trial after he pleaded not guilty to ten count charge in court yesterday.
Gracious David West is standing trial for ten count charge bothering on murder and attempted murder. The suspected serial killer while taking his plea said he did not commit any crime and swiftly asked the judge to ask the police to hand back 50,000 naira, his chain and wrist watch collected from him on the day of his arrest.
The second defendant in the matter Nimi ThankGod who is accused of manhandling a corpse of one of the victims of serial killer also pleaded not guilty to the crime. However, the court granted the second defendant Nimi ThankGod bail in a sum of five hundred thousand with one surety in like sum. The court granted her the bail after the State prosecuting team did not oppose to the bail application of Nimi ThankGod.
Judiciary Correspondent Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu reports that the Presiding Judge Justice Adolphus Enebeli adjourned the trial to 9,11,13,16,18,19 and 20th December for hearing.
In the meantime, the State Prosecutor CHIDI EKEH said the trial of GRACIOUS DAVID WEST will still go ahead despite him pleading not guilty to the crimes.
CHIDI EKEH also clarified that the second defendant NIMI THANKGOD is charged with misconduct of corpse and not murder. He said Nimi had secretly and wrongfully disposed of corpse of the one of the murdered victims of gracious David west at the old port Harcourt township after she had poured chemical on the decomposing corpse to prevent it from smelling, wrapped it in a cellophane bag and disposed the victim like a garbage without dully informing the police.
EDWARD OBIOKOR, the lawyer of NIMI THANKGOD said he applied for the bailing of his client because the crime she is accused of is a bail able offence.
He said ‘’my client did not murder anybody at all, so she is entitled to bail, she is been accused of not inform the police about the murder and taken to have gone to dispose the corpse of a victim found dead in the hotel where she manages
