The National Spill Detection and Response says it recorded two hundred and twenty-nine cases of pipeline vandalism with over twenty-nine thousand barrels of crude oil spill in Rivers state in 2019.

The zonal Director of NOSDRA South South Cyrus Nkangwung told correspondent Precious Ahiakwo that annual reports by the Agency indicates that activities of pipeline vandals have increased in Rivers State compared to the reports of 2018.

The zonal Director of NOSDRA South South Cyrus Nkangwung said the volume of crude oil spill as a result of sabotage by vandals is a scary and a waste of federal government revenue and environmental degradation.

He said there is a need for vigorous public enlightenment against this illicit act so as to bring a reduction to the loss.
