The Nigeria labour congress has rejected what was paid to workers as minimum wage saying that was not the true reflections of agreement between the tripartite committee on Minimum wage in Rivers State.
A statement signed by the state chairman of the Nigerian labour Congress BEATRICE ITUBO reads in full says: –
‘’The rivers state council of the Nigeria labour congress NLC has called on the rivers state government t p immediately reconvene a meeting of the negotiations committee on the new minimum wage without further delay’
Arising from a meeting of all public sector unions affiliated to NLC at the state NLC Secretariats toady the union resolved that what was paid to workers as January salary was not a reflections of the new National minimum wage nor a product of principles of collective bargaining between the Government and labour
NLC also insisted that henceforth, it will not tolerate the nonchalant attitude of the government towards its employees and urged workers to be alert and committed to their work as well as remain resolute as NLC will not be complacent rather must ensure that their welfare is given top priority’’
Meanwhile some of the civil servants (Names withheld) who spoke to our correspondent said I received 66thousand a month this January I got alert of 73 thousand naira.
IHUOMA WOGU said I am a cleaner and office assistance, but I can’t tell you that I noticed any change. We are on 18,000 naira basics if they add 30,000naira at least I should receive 12000 naira more as minimum wage, but e be like say na 6000 naira them add, which half of the minimum wage.
