The Ohaneze Ndigbo has issued another seven days’ ultimatum reminder to the Nigerian police to release the Ikokwu 29. Held in prison custody for protesting the death of Chima who was tortured to death by police.
The president of ohaneze Ndigbo in Rivers state Bartholomew Okere at meeting in Port Harcourt with traders said Igbos have become endergenerd specie in the hands of Rivers state police command. He said the police have turned traders to their ATM machine. Anytime they need money they will arrest us on frivolous charges and collect huge sums of money as bail bond.
He said if the demands to release the Ikokwu 29, and the demand to release the corpse of late Chima and pay compensation is not met as stipulated within the 7 days which started counting from Wednesday last week and would elapse on Tuesday the whole Igbos doing business in Rivers state will shut down their business for one day as a mark of protest by sitting at home.
For his part the publicity secretary of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Felix Chikwendu-Onuma also hinted that the Igbos will not accept investigation by police and called for a coroner into the alleged AUTOPSY conducted by police he said only an agreed pathologist together with the team from University of Port Harcourt would be accepted to conduct the autopsy after the Ikokwu 4 might have identified late Chima’s corpse. And certified by his wife would be accepted.
