EWR- Why are you here and Why do you want to study abroad
Students: I am Tonye Harry; I came to find out if I can get direct admission. I want to study abroad because I want to seek out new challenges, diversity and learning from the masters, I mean I just feel that my destiny is tired there.
Miss Ruth Desmond says studying abroad may be one of the most beneficial experiences for me because, students have the opportunity to study in a foreign nation and take on new culture of a new land.
Our correspondent also spoke to some parents at the venue: Dr THEO IBENEME explains that “Traveling internationally exposes you to. experience different cultures expand learning,”
‘’ another parent, I am Mr Bamdele Ayodele one of the participant at this years IEF, It is actually a very nice thing bringing it to rivers sate it will give us the opportunities to know about schools abroad, to see what they have to offer us and to also expose us and our children to educational system outside rivers state, outside Nigeria. And it will also give our children an international exposure beyond what they know here in their school in Rivers state and that’s why, I decided to come for the program.
Hmmm. I appreciate them coming over to port Harcourt to create awareness because there’s a lot student out there that are looking for means to travel abroad, but with this fair coming down here it is an opportunity for students to know how it works and for them to meet genuine pathways on how to get abroad, Mrs. Belema Onuwari’’
And the coordinators of the fair Farouq Oyebanjo. Who is also The director of operations for MOD GROUP. Said the aim of the Education Fair is to be better prepared for the future ahead and get practical advice on how to seek Scholarships, travels and programs available to applicants with dreams of studying abroad.
He said MOD GROUP owns several businesses one of it is the IEF which is the study abroad platforms for universities abroad to come to Nigeria and meet with the students directly.
We have universities from the UK.USA CANADA, AUSTRALIA. IRELAND and several countries. they are all here to meet with the students one on one and give them advises on scholarships, Tuition fees and even make applications on the spot directly and offer them admissions to their respective schools
EWR- WHY DID YOU BRING THIS FAIR HERE TO PORT HARCOURT? CAN YOU SAY THAT OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN NIGERIA IS DEFICIENT JUDGING FROM THIS HUGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT TURNED UP FOR THIS FAIR? IS THERE A GAP IN THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM YOU ARE TRYING TO FILL?
‘’Oh actually there is a gap, none like there is a problem with our educational system in Nigeria. its fine, I mean there are lots lovely universities in Nigeria at the moment but the only challenge is that the number of local universities we have within the country, don’t have the capacity to take care of the number of people that are looking to get admission, I mean we have millions of students taking jamb every year and not all of them can get admission even if they are brilliants. It is just that all the spaces in our local universities can’t cater for all of them and so people needs to look for options. So it is more of options, so if you have challenges getting admission in Nigeria. It is also an opportunity for you.’’
‘’Whereas Some people understand that quality education might also be expensive so they want the option to choose, for example some will say let me also go to the UK and I am not limited to my country alone, and there is also the benefit of international exposure which comes with studying abroad. So people want that option that is why we felt we should bring this to Rivers state so that they can gain access to this.’’ He added.
EWR- WHAT IS YOUR ASSESSMENT OF RIVERS STATE AND THE PARTICIPANT?
FAROUQ- Very good! Very impressive, I have to tell you, I love this state because I have stayed here for a couple years but I am still impress as well, I know that people love to study in this state, you know there is this notion that a lot of people here don’t like to study, they don’t want to go to school but its false. I can tell you that, see the number of turn out here to this event, we have thousands and thousands of people here today looking for an opportunity to study abroad
