Rivers State Police Command says it has launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of two officers on duty along Ogoni to AkwaIbom road of the east west axis on Sunday 2nd of February 2020.
The police spokesman in Rivers State DSP NNAMDI OMONI told our correspondent that the command is sadden over the incident which claimed the lives of two of its officers but assured that the police must see to the end of the incident.
OMONI who refused to name the officers involved in the fatal crash said the command have recovered the vehicle used by the officers, that preliminary investigation reveals that the car somersaulted several times while it was in hot chase of a suspects, while the remains of the two officers who died at the accident scene have been deposited in the mortuary to make way for proper and thorough investigation.
NNAMDI OMONI also hinted that the cause of delay in stating the position of the command on to release the corpse of late CHIMA IKWUNADO and prosecution of those that may be indicted, was due to the request by families of late Chima to carry out a fresh Autopsy acceptable by all parties concerned in the matter.
He said the command still awaits the visiting pathologist from the family of late Chima Ikwunado.
