The Nigerian legion, Rivers state chapter has inaugurated a scholarship board to cater for the educational needs of children and widows of fallen heroes.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion Justice Chichi while inaugurating the board said the funds was approved by governor Nyesom Wike for the Widows and children of fallen heroes who are Rivers indigene.
He said the Rivers state government approved 100 million as scholarships Funds for Widows and children of Retired and dead military officers arising from 2020 Armed forces Remembrance day celebrations in rivers state.
He said the Rivers state legion extended the Scholarship to young widows of fallen heroes to enable them get education that can enhance their employment opportunities after studies to cater for their families. ‘’the Legion amended its policy on education to cater for widow of Military, Air force and Naval officer’s wives who desire more education to enhance her employment chances, this will empower her to raise up to the daunting challenges of taking care of her household
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion Justice Chichi also urged members of the scholarship Board not to engage in corruption in the selection processes and not to allow their personal interests get in the way of their duties. He warned the scholarship board that if anyone of them have any personal problem with parent of theses fallen hero, it should not get in the way of assisting their children who are qualified for the scholarship not to participate.
he urged the board to put their personal interests aside as the 100 million approved for the scholarship is not proceeds for corruptions or enriching themselves in the discharge of their duties
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Scholarship Board Sir Firima Joseph Harvest promised that the 100 million approved by the governor will be utilized judiciously and called on chairmen of the legion from the 23 local government areas in the state to assist them by identifying the rightful candidate.
