Stay Away From The Lures Of Exams Malpractice: Acting Chairman Of Senior Secondary School Board Warns Principals In Rivers State


To ensure that schools in Rivers State Perform optimally with the coming of the April to May senior secondary school examination the senior secondary school board in a meeting with all the principals of all the secondary school in Rivers State to iron out salient issues and challenges facing the running and management of the schools.

The acting Chairman of senior secondary board Dame Grace Akpughunum while addressing the principals of senior secondary schools in the state warned that the board will not tolerate any act capable of undermining the standards set for public school to top her contemporaries in the educational sector.

She said the governor chief Barrister NYESOM WIKE whom she dubbed as education friendly Governor his approved lump sums of money for school’s management as imprest to enable the principal run the schools effectively, noting that financial constraints should not be the reason why any school or student didn’t do well in WAEC.

The acting Chairman of senior’s secondary school board Dame Grace Akpughunum however warned that it would sack any principals whose school is involved in examination malpractice. She said  Prepare your students to face and surmount the obstacles of exams, as schools in Rivers state prepare to write west African examination council WAEC, I know the business that goes with writing external examination but you must be a person of integrity, don’t eat your future today because of a token to buy your conscience, resist every form of juicy offers from people who do not mean well for our children and begin now to teach the children to read, study to pass exams and not wait for any bother to throw answers sheet to them in the examination hall.

Dame Akpuguhnum said ”If i hear that your school is involved in exams malpractice . the hammer will come down. the governor has graciously given us every form of assistance to ensure we do well. please go home and use the money effectively, pay your securities, fix fallen gates. buy markers. repairs broken chairs table and blackboard, imprest is not your pocket money, it is for the school upkeep and don’t steal government money because you will not grow if you steal”.Some of the principles at the event however narrates their challenges, they blamed some of the examination malpractice to the cartel at WAEC BOARD. One principal said we may not be able to withstand the kind of pressure that these boys from the village brings to examination halls, they come with Guns, and anybody who stands in their way they deal with, and we need to be alive to supervise the exams.

Others blame the insecurity to the WAEC board, they say some of these WAEC OFFICIALS Connive with some village chiefs and boys from the community, and if you try to usurp their powers they will bulldoze you out of their way and urge the board to look into it.

Our correspondent reports that meeting which started with principals from Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Bonny, Ogu/Bolo, Khana, Abua/odual, Etche, Ahoada East from the Monday the 10th of February 2020 Is expected to

continue on Tuesday the11th of February with principals from Gokana, Tai, Emuoha, Ikwerre, Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni

while Degema, Obio/Akpor, Eleme, okrika AsariToru, AkukuToru, Omuma, Oyibo and port Harcourt city principals are expected at the briefing today.
