The committee for the defence of human rights CDHR has condemned alleged call by the commissioner of police in rivers state to settle out of court with the families of the tortured Ikokwu five.
A Lawyer and member of the committee for the defence of human Rights HENRY EKINE described the move by the CP to settle out of court as a wrong move and in bad taste to the statutory rights of police to investigate and prosecute any crime under the law.
He said the civil Societies and human rights group expects the police to take punitive measures by parading and bringing the officers involved in crime of the torture to death of late mechanic Chima Ikwunado and the Ikokwu 4 to court for justice to be done and not seems to be going against the law.
He said any attempt to settle out of court will portray the CP of trying to subverts justice and shielding corrupt police officers to cover crime.
Henry Ekine also appeal to the commissioner of Police to the needful by ensuring that families of the victims of Ikokwu 5 gets Justice in by providing all the necessary assistance for the legal action against the erring police officers Begins in Earnest
