Blogger Behind EFCC Fake Cell Tweet Admitted To 1 Million Naira Bail By A Port Harcourt Federal High Court


A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has admitted Chukwuebuka Washington Dikeocha, the blogger behind “Fake EFCC” cell tweet to bail in the sum of N1million.

The blogger, Dikeocha was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Port Harcourt’s zonal office on Tuesday March10, 2020 on a two count charge, to which he pleaded not guilty before Justice M.L Abubakar.

The court consequently adjourned till March 12 for consideration of the defendant’s bail application. At the resumed sitting today, defence counsel, C.C. Achunelo told the court that the matter was for hearing of the defendant’s bailing application. “We have before the court 11-paragraph affidavit and motion on notice filed on March 9, 2020.  “We urge the court to grant the defendant bail based on the motion”, he said.

Counsel to EFCC, M.T. Iko did not oppose the application.

“We are not opposing the application. All we are concerned about is the presence of the defendant to stand his trial”, Iko said.

Justice Abubakar granted the defendant bail in the sum of One Million Naira and a surety in like sum. The surety must be a civil servant on grade level 10 and must be verified by the prosecutor.

The matter was adjourned to April 7, 2020 for commencement of trial.
