The Police Station at Abua central in Abua/Odual LGA on Friday the 10th of April arrested four Health workers attached to an NGO, Greater Women Initiative for Health and Right.
The coordinator of the group told our correspondent this morning that the police in Abua/Odual told them that the Rivers State Government did not permit movement of anybody in that area.
She said the four Health workers only went on sensitization did not gathered people but were moving from house to house to sensitize people on the need to observe social distance and carry out routine check on HIV/AIDS monthly drug distribution before the they were abruptly whisked to the police station on allegation that the command is against movement of people and has been instructed that nobody is supposed to bring covid19 test kits.
The programme manager of the NGO Greater Women Initiative for Health and Right also informed our correspondent that the Police have equally seized their phones
Efforts were made to ensure their prompt release a call was put through to DSP Nnamdi Omoni but did not answer as at that time and text messages was also sent to him. Other stakeholder was contacted including community chiefs and their where about was given to some of the NGO in the area to effect release.
The Police eventually released the Health workers. They health workers called to say they have been released and have left their mission in Abua/odual to race back to Port Harcourt.
