Rivers State CSOs/Media Covid19 Situation Room Seeks Collaborations With Police: Appeals To Commissioner Of Police To Address Human Rights Abuses By Security Officers Occasioned By The Lockdown Order


CSO/Media Covid19 Situation Room visit to the Commissioner of Police Rivers State at the state Police Headquarters, Moscow Road PortHarourt to engage and interact with the commissioner of police on human rights issues bordering the state

The state commissioner of police Joseph Gobum Mukan at a meeting between the police authorities and members of the Civil societies organization/media situation room on Covid19 in the state welcomed the group with lots of pleasantries and cheers.

Introducing the group, Co-Secretary of the CSO/Media Covid19 Situation Room Green Isaac introduced the organizations and highlighted on some of the achievement gained so far by the group during their monitoring and observation of the whole fight on covid19 in the state, most especially why some policemen need a better reorientation on how to engage the residents for a harmonious working relationships.

In his address the spokesman for the civil societies organization Covid19 situation room Karl Uchegbu who spoke on behalf of the group appealed to the CP to quickly address all human rights abuses occasioned by the covid19 lock down.

He said we are here to formally engage you officially and to welcome you to Rivers state, he said from your first media engagement you said you have zero tolerances to human rights abuses and for us because of what we do which also inter depends on what you do and what the government do, we felt there is a need for a synergy to see how we can all be on the same page so that when some issues come up, we will be in the best position to know how to present them and go about them, that is why we are here.

For his part the one of the co-chairman of the Covid19 CSOs/media Situation room Stevyn Obodoekwe appreciated the commissioner for his interventions and interest in Human rights organization, he appealed to the new CP Josphe Mukan to ensure that while in the cause of discharging his mandate that human rights abuses are curtailed. He said our concerns are human right issues, so that when we put a call to you on certain issues you will address them.
