This young man here whose left leg is shattered is from Onicha Igboeze. His name is Nwite Godswill Uchenna, a poor artisan. He was hired to do some ‘POP’ work by one Mr Nwali Ejike from Ikwo, same Ebonyi State.
The Poor artisan had completed the job as was hired but Ejike craftily refused to pay up. He continued to dribble him from week to week. Finally, Ejike later asked Uchenna to meet him for the money at the GT Bank, Ogojo road. That was on Friday, 26th June.
So, around 5pm, Uchenna was already with Ejike at the bank ATM as agreed. Ejike had finished making some cash withdrawals but still mischievously refused to settle Uchenna, the artisan. When he calmly approached Ejike, he contemptuously ignored him, entered his Gulf 3 car and turned on the engine.
While Uchenna was still standing by the driver’s door begging for his money, Ejike carefully wheeled his front tyre against the standing Uchenna, quickly selected the reverse gear and in a jiffy, Uchenna was found on the ground with his left leg shattered so irreparably with bones projecting outwards.
As the wounded Uchenna rolled and wailed helplessly in the pool of his own blood, Ejike quickly made to drive away but was successfully intercepted by onlookers. Soon afterwards, the Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE) was alerted by one citizen Duke Chukwu (SirDuke Digitafotos) and with the help of others around, the fiendish Ejike was arrested and handed over to Ekeaba Police Station where he is still cooling off. The matter will soon be transferred to the state Police headquarters for continued investigations and for subsequent arraignment.
Meanwhile, the wounded Ejike was quickly moved to one advanced traditional orthopaedic centre, near Haraca junction in Abakaliki where he is currently receiving treatments. A HURIDE delegation led by the state Chairman, Sampson Oko Nweke visited him on Saturday to know how he’s faring. He was still seen groaning in pains and weeping uncontrollably because according to him, he has nobody to help him on this condition as he is the breadwinner of his poor family with a sick mother and younger siblings. Oko Nweke however, consoled and encouraged him to be strong, assuring him of HURIDE’s determination to stand by him until Justice is served.
