Two persons is reported dead following a cult clash that ensued between rival Greenlanders,Icelanders cult members at Amadi-Ama area of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.
We learned that the two rival cult groups engaged in a gun battle as earlier as 6:10am on Monday.
The shooting residents say resulted to panic as people remained indoor hours after the incident.
A member of one of the opposing cult groups was reportedly killed during the gun duel.
Sources say the battle may not be unconnected to fight for territorial control.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police Command,Superintendent of Police (SP) . Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the development .
Omoni noted that crossfire was between two cult groups and no life was lost.
SP Omoni explained that the Police mobilized to the scene, as soon as they were alerted but on arrival the hoodlums fled. He revealed that normalcy has returned to the area.
SP Omoni however disclosed that it was a Keke (tricycle) driver who was shot on the leg in the incident and he is receiving treatment.
He urged residents of Amadi-Ama to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses, as the Police is on top of the situation.
residents and people doing business around Amadi Ama,,Ogbunabali, garrison junction, Rumukalagbor axis, waterline junction have called on the Police and other security agencies to increase security presences following the shooting at Amadi Ama on Monday and reported shooting of two persons at a drinking joint at Garrison junction axis of Port Harcourt days ago.
The responders who expressed worry said the shooting may not be unconnected to supremacy battle between Icelanders and Greenlanders cult groups.
The resident called on security operatives to be proactive to avoid repeat of the war between the two groups that claimed lives in 2018/2019.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, SP Nnamdi Omoni did not confirm the incident at Garrison junction as he was yet to respond to text messages sent to him .
It would be recalled that on December 7,2018 fracas between suspected Greenlanders and Icelanders cult around waterlines junction led to the robbery of a popular fast food along Olu-Obansijo off Waterlines junction.
The Spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) in Rivers state Akin Oguntuase had told journalists on December 8,2018 that it was cult boys who were misbehaving around the area.The NSCDC state headquarters office is close to the scene were cult groups unleashed mayhem on the night of December 7,2018
On November 21,2018 two persons suspected to be Icelanders cult members were killed in broad daylight at Waterlines junction by suspected Greenlanders.The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command,Nnamdi Omoni had confirmed the killing then but disclosed that he could not state if the killing was cult related.
