Reports says Gunmen numbering over Ten on Friday attacked a new generation bank in Iyin Ekiti, the Irepodun Ifelodun Council area of Ekiti State.
Sources said the robbers arrived at the bank premises around 3 p.m. carted away large sums of money after blowing up the security door to gain access.
The operation was said to have lasted for at least 40 minutes without any police interruption, raising questions about the absence of security operatives despite the presence of a police station in the town and neighboring towns
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident, said police are on the trail of the robbers. He said no casualty has been confirmed, adding that the police team is working to launch a manhunt for the criminal gang.
“Immediately we got a distressed call from the area, we drafted our men there. Our men are on the trail of the criminals.
“I want to confirm to you that the robbers are being chased as I speak with you with the determination to effect their arrest and make them face the law.
