Two months after a resolution was reached Between organized labor and Rivers state government, to set up a tripartite committee to resolve all outstanding issues including payment of pension allowance and gratuities, the pensioners says nothing has been done.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of pensioners Collins Nwankwo told our correspondent that since the organized labor suspended their planed protest of 7th September on the allege lingering of non payment of pension allowance and gratuities, nothing has been done. He said the pensioners are pained that a lot them are dying everyday without accessing their pension and gratuities, after spending 35 years serving Rivers state government
He said some retirees who have gone through the process of Biometric exercise and data capturing have not been placed on monthly pension and are suffering untold hardship to fend for themselves and families.
The State coordinator of Contributory Pension scheme LUCKY ATI Explained that Over 6000 Retirees who has gone through biometric has been placed on the monthly pension but are yet to be paid pension arrears of over 4 years and gratuity which has not been paid to any pensioner in the state since he assumed duty as the Governor of the State.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Nigeria union of pensioners Collins Nwankwo also issued 2 weeks ultimatum to the state government to begin the process of implementing all the agreement signed by government and the organized labour as touching Pension issues or the SENIOR CITIZENS would be forced to take to the streets, so that the world can hear
