Degema Branch Of NBA Urge Lawyers To Embrace Media, Public Relations Ethics To Remain Relevant In A Tech Savvy Rapidly Changing Environments

A one day workshop to make legal Practionners become effective in applying ICT to knowledge to issues relating to legal drafting, interpretation of laws and litigation practices ended with a call on Lawyers to pay more attention to public relations Ethics to enhance their work in a rapidly changing environment.

The keynote speaker who is the past president of Nigeria Institute of public relations Amaopusenibo Bobosofiri Brown in his paper presentation said for lawyers to gain public trust in justice delivery, there is needs to understand methods of applying public relations Ethics in legal profession.

He said in the tradition of remaining Learned public relations gives support to individuals and organizations in tackling complex management and social influences in changing the landscape of Litigation.

Bobosofiri Brown also said most lawyers are still unable to apply public relations in dealing with their clients and the public.
He said there is need for Lawyers to be conversant with social media, ICT knowledge to make legal practionners become effective.

The Nigeria Bar association Degema branch says the days of Lawyers carrying large volumes of files and folders from one court to another are over and urge lawyers to embrace modern technology to enhance justice delivery.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of continuing Legal Education of the Nigeria Bar association Degema branch George Karibi said another major issue facing the legal profession is the poor remuneration for the young lawyers. He said this poor wages paid to young Lawyers have given rise to sharp practices in the profession. Correspondent Anita Ogona reports that judges of the high court Adolphus Enebeli, Florence Feberesima and other eminent lawyers in the legal profession in Rivers state presented papers in various topics at the seminar.

The Theme for the event is ”Public Relations Ethics for lawyers” put together by the Nigeria Bar association Degema branch was aimed at equipping lawyers on protocol and social media ethics.
