ASUU strikes cannot effectively get government to fix the educational Sector because ASUU do not fight where their major interest (welfare) is not at stake. ASUU has tuned down its stance on the strike only because their major interest (Salaries and allowance) has not been sufficiently considered.
Now imagine that What the government agreed to commit as intervention fund for upgrading facilities in the universities is less than what it is dolling out to the pockets of the lecturers. Only protest from Nigerian students like the #EndSARS protest can force the government to take action. So students should take over the fight to revitalize the universities and not ASUU.”
Community people, what do you think about this? Which University welfare are they fighting for…since you were born till date…tell me what they’ve achieved in terms of their fight for Nigerian University System? they have been hiding under the acclaimed fight for academic standard to achieve their selfish reasons…
I am talking from careful observation that the Union’s first and foremost item is usually welfare of its members….but using the the rot in the facilities in the universities as cover. Look at this situation, the government offered 70billion on the table out of which 40billion is a dead-weight Non Project comital. Divide 30billion by the number of beneficiary universities and tell me whether 500m can build at least 3 standard 21st century lecturer halls and laboratories for 2 or 3 faculties-the standard as obtains in the Americas and Europe where their children study.
