Report says A police officer allegedly shut an Okada man to death, then angry mob retaliated by burning down the police station
An Eyewitness Okey Dike told our correspondent that the police started the fracas by killing innocent Keke driver and okada man because of 50 naira and they even had mind to open fire on the protesters and many sustained severe injuries. he said
Another Eyewitness IDII Hephzibah in her narration said: A policeman killed an okada rider this morning and angry youths went to the police station at Igboukwu and set it on fire.
After that, they also went to Ekwulobia police station along Nanka Road and also set it on fire
About 2 hours ago, I saw a hilux van carrying soldiers with one small boy with wounds and heading towards Ekwulobia from Oko
Another concerned Anambra resident John Nweke regretted that this incident may cause to serious security breaches during the yuletide, He said ”that’s what criminals wanted, burning down police station/ post so that the police will not stop them from evil activities this Christmas…
However, if what they said is right that a police man killed the guy because of #100, then he should be prosecuted and charge to court, if possible remove his uniform now…stop him from further attack ..
We also gathered that Igboukwu Police station is even a rented apartment, The owner will be counting his loss now just because a driver refused to give his hard earned money to a triger happy police man then he released the bullet on him
Igboukwu police station is an individual property. I hope Nigerian police will repair it. I remember the owner’s son begging guys/ angry Mob at Nkwor during EndSars not to tamper with the building because of damages it could cause to him.
WE also gathered that the man they shot, his mothers burial is on 7th January and his wife just put to bed Just because of #50 someone child, husband, father, siblings life is gone. OMG
Meanwhile The Anambra Police command has denied that the Okada man was killed because of N50 Naira, The Anambra police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed that the officer shot the motorcyclist but added that it was an “accidental discharge”.
He said in a statement on Wednesday: “On the 15/12/2020 at about 10:30pm, there was an altercation between police operatives and motorcycle riders over some impounded motorcycles as a result of the recent restriction on movement of motorcycles beyond 9:pm in the State. The situation degenerated into a chaos which led to an accidental discharge that hit one motorcycle rider and burning of Igboukwu police station by irate youth..
“The Commissioner of Police CP John B. Abang, fdc is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and has ordered for detention of the policemen involved and full scale investigation into the matter.”
He said justice will be served in the case “and the outcome of Police investigation shall be made public in due course please”.
