In a bid to enforce the law The Nigeria police Igwuritta, In Ikwerre Local Government area of Rivers State yesterday raided an operational base of some Igwuritta OSPAC Members and arrested those found within the premises.
Human Rights activist Prince Wiro had earlier called on the Security operatives to live up to their responsibilities by checking excesses of OSPAC and local vigilante.
He said ”No single individual or group of persons is above the law. OSPAC at Igwurita who were accused of killing a brother to a Port Harcourt based lawyer, refused to present themselves for interrogation after their release from Police custody.
Even a local Government Chairman who we learnt, stood as surety for the OSPAC members before they were granted bail could not produce them afterwards”.
However the Police raided their office today and arrested some of the OSPAC members. Some of their property were also destroyed.
Even when the Igwurita Police Division arrested OSPAC members for killing the brother to a Port Harcourt based Lawyer for no just cause, report say some OSPAC members invaded the Police station and freed their member who was properly restrained with handcuff.
He conclude by saying In as much as OSPAC has contributed to the relative peace in some of the communities in Rivers State, they must be supervised by the Government .
Intelligence at our disposal suggests that in the coming days, there will be intentional and deliberate policy by the Rivers State Police command to ensure OSPAC and local vigilante work within the confines of the Law.
