Normalcy has returned to the Rumuolumeni Axis of Obio/Akpor, In Rivers state following the intervention of Rivers state government including officials of NNS pathfinder Who met with the leadership of the community to prevail on the youths to clear the blockade mounted at the entrance and exist points of the area.
Earlier in the day residents had woken up to the surprised protest by the youths of the area, leading to the Blockade of all The internal and link roads in Rumuolumeni community over allegation that the Nigeria Navy NNS pathfinder has been arresting community leaders for demanding adequate compensation from oil Related activities from multinationals operating in the area.
Protesters bearing placards with the inscriptions: “NNS Pathfinder stop intimidating us”, “we are peace-loving Community”, “Marine Solutions pls employ our youths”, block parts of Rumuolumeni Iwofe road.
Road users plying through that road faced difficulties following the blockage of the road at St. Johns junction and Aker junction of Rumuolumeni road, Port Harcourt.
Commuters carrying petroleum products all parked on the road following the blockage of the road by the protesters. School activities was stalled as Members of the Public were advised to avoid the Rumuolumeni/Iwofe road axis as the area was on lockdown
A joint Military task force comprising of the Nigerian Army, Police and the Nigeria Navy deployed to the area to ensure there is no security breach, but were resisted by the rowdy session at the palace of the paramount ruler of Rumuolumeni shortly after the officials of Rivers State government arrived for peaceful negotiation with the community but the daring youths during the meeting demanded that the roads blockade would be opened if the five leaders arrested by NNS Pathfinder on allegation of kidnapping some company workers operating clandestinely in the yard of NNS pathfinder in the area were released and secured
