Pensioners Appeals To Governor Wike To Use Part Of The 78 Billion Cooling Off In The Bank To Pay Outstanding Pension Allowances, Gratuities, Retirement Benefits


The Rivers state chapter of Nigeria Union of pensioners is appealing to the Rivers state Governor to use part of recently refunded 78 Billion Naira from the federal government to settle outstanding pension arrears, Gratuities and death benefits owed senior citizens of the state.
State Chairman of the Nigeria union of pensioners Collins Nwankwo said the call became necessary following the announcement by the Governor that the morning is kept in the Bank while lots of pensioners in the state are yet to receive initial pension allowances or gratuities since he emerged Governor of the state.
He said though the governor is paying people already on the pension on payroll monthly pension, but those who are retiring on a daily basis undergo torturous retirement exercise without any form of payments according to the civil service Rules

The state Chairman of the Nigeria union of pensioners, Collins Nwankwo also told correspondent Anita Ogona that a lot of pensioners are dying due to heart attacks and depression due to inabilities to accessing their pension gratuities to take care of old age related diseases despite serving the state for 35 years.
