A group known as Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called for an immediate investigation into report that good number of officials of notorious disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS have infiltrated E’ Crack unit of the Rivers State Police command leading to upsurge in alleged human rights abuse by the unit.
The group in a statement by its coordinator, Prince Wiro said the call for investigation of the report became necessary following the increase in alleged extortion and human rights abuse by E’Crack unit since they took possession of the building at Rupokwu, headquarters of defunct SARS in Rivers State.
Prince Wiro called on the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Eboka Friday to investigate the report with a view to bringing perpetrators to book in accordance to the law.
The group expressed concern in the report that suggest that the some of the officials of the disbanded SARS who infiltrated E’crack unit were allegedly indicted by the Judicial Panel of Inquiry in Rivers State on alleged SARS brutality.
