Septuagenarians at the Port Harcourt Home for the elderly and children at the Port Harcourt Children Home are calling on government and organizations to use the Easter season to provide a better health care system for them.
They made the call when members of the NPA Berthing Committee, Rivers Port and Shipping trade group, donated food stuff and toiletries to the homes to celebrate the Easter season with them
Matron of the Port Harcourt Home for the Elderly, Rev. Sister Mary-Jane Ralpheal while thanking the groups for the donations said medical outreach should be carried out to reduce health related issues among the old men and women in the facility.
Representative of the Port Harcourt Children Home, Ibinabo Braide said the children will have a big smile on their faces as they celebrate the Easter season with the food stuff and toiletries donated by the Nigerian Port Authority Berthing committee, Rivers Port & Shipping trade group, Rivers State.
She said the children however needs medical attention and also needs to be in school and vocational skills for the older children in the home
On his part, chairman of the Nigerian Port Authority Berthing committee, Rivers Port & Shipping trade group, Rivers State, Zittas Julfa said the donations are made annually to give hope and joy to the vulnerable in the society especially in the festive season
He said these people are special and deserve unconditional love and care.
Zittas Julfa called on the state government to pay more attention to the health of the senior citizens at the Elderly Home and children at the special homes as poor attention is given to them
