30 Years Old Woman Looses Pregnancy After Alleged Torture, Brutality By Anti-Kidnapping Unit Of The Rivers State Police Command

A 30 Year old Mother of One, Joy Godstime Ihunwo who was allegedly brutalized by men of Anti-Kidnapping unit in Rivers State has revealed that she has lost her pregnancy  after Her Ordeal In The hands of policemen who came to arrest her Husband but manhandled her, by allegedly brutalizing. In an interview with our correspondent, Joy Godstime Ihunwo wept uncontrollably said the scan result which was sighted by Journalists dated 10th April,2021 showed that she lost the pregnancy.
Mrs Ihunwo called on human rights community and well meaning Nigerians to help her get justice.
Narrating her ordeal, she said she was in the house last Tuesday April 6,2021 when men of Anti-kidnapping unit came looking for her husband who is the Chief Security Officer of Rumu-Elechi community in Mile  3 Diobu, Port Harcourt. According to her,despite arresting her husband and some of his vigilance group members,some of the Police officers broke her room, came inside and allegedly beat her up with butt of the gun before whisking her away to their office alongside her husband and his workers. Mrs Ihunwo disclosed that she was released later in the night that same day and brought  back to the house by the men of Anti-kidnapping unit after intervention of a rights group.
She also accused the unit of stealing her money, some other valuables and engaging in wanton destruction of property.
In the meantime, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called on the Police Authorities to investigate the circumstance that led to the loss of pregnancy by Mrs Ihunwo after she was allegedly brutalized by men of Anti-kidnapping unit acting on a petition her name was not mentioned.
A lawyer with the group Mrs Jane James called on the Police Authorities to ensure their officers found culpable should be brought to book.
She said justice must be done and seen to be done in the circumstance.
Our correspondent reports that some of the vigilante members who were arrested have been granted bail by the Anti-kidnapping unit.
