Government Workers Allege OSPAC In Etche Detained And Tortured Them For Failing To Pay ‘Matching’ Ground Levy
Nwanyanwu Promise who says he is a native of Mba community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State has accused OSPAC members in the community of torturing and detaining him and his three colleagues for two days over their refusal to pay illegal fees otherwise known as ‘matching’ ground to members of the vigilante.
In an interview with our correspondent,Mr Promise disclosed that himself and his colleagues where at their beat, where they where posted to by Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and industry when some members of OSPAC came and demanded that they should pay ‘matching’ ground levy.
Mr Promise revealed that he and his colleagues disagreed on the ground that the state Government has abolished the illegal fee..
He said on the fateful day he came back and held OSPAC has ‘arrested’ his colleagues and taken them to their barracks.
Mr Promise said he went there to enquire what the issue was but was detained by the OSPAC members along his colleagues and tortured for two days.
He alleged that they were released by the OSPAC members after paying 50,000 naira.
In the meantime, Mr Promise criticized the failure of the Okehi Police Division to either invite or arrest the OSPAC members.
He regretted that for three weeks now, the Okehi Police Division has not acted on his complaints.
He called on the Commissioner of Police, CP Friday Eboka to ensure justice on the matter.
