Twenty five years after the Independent National Electoral commission INEC created the present polling units we have in the country, the commission is set to create additional polling unit to ensure easy access to polling units.
Speaking at an interactive forum on the ongoing expansion of access to polling units, the residents Electoral commissioner Obo Effanga INEC field staff are already at various locations where the new polling unit are to be established based on the approved guidelines of the commission.
He said currently Rivers state have 4442 polling units, and the commission looks to convert 2424 voting points to voting units when it is ratified by the commission.
The Rivers INEC resident Electoral commissioner Obo Effanga also hinted that any existing polling units sited in any place which does not meet standards of the commission will be relocated to appropriate locations based on the new guidelines
Our correspondent reports that The commission appeals to members of the public to give necessary assistance to staff deployed at various locations within our communities unfettered access to all facilities.
