Wives/Husbands Of Police Officers Who Died During The December 4th Bayelsa Bye-Election Protest Neglect, By INEC, Police Command

Some police officers wives and husband who said their spouse died during the December 4th Bayelsa bye election have protested the neglect of their families ever since they gallant officers lost their lives during the election.

The angry spouses of Police officers said their husband /wives were serving in Rivers state but was dispatch to Bayelsa for the bye election also accused INEC of failing to provide life jacket and dispatching the police officers at night, despite the dangers of night travels on the sea.

They say they have suffered untold hardship and had to stop their children from going to school.

The police officers spouses also claims that efforts to get the attention of the Rivers and Bayelsa state police command have proved abortive. They say the command referred them to INEC to seek for compensation for their husbands.

However the INEC residents Electoral commissioner Obong Efanga had last week during a press parley said INEC was only responsible for the welfare of its adhoc staff during the elections and do not handle police matters.

Meanwhile the state police command refused to make any statement on the matter, an authority within the police told our correspondent that issues of welfare of its officers is the sole responsibility of the police headquarters Abuja and asked that the aggrieved police spouses to direct their matter to Abuja
