Details of Communique– Governors from Southern Nigeria, comprising South East, South-South and South West have canvassed for the convocation of a national dialogue.
The governors made the call at their meeting, held at Delta State Government House, Asaba
All the governors from the southern region, including Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, attended the meeting.
Presenting a communiqué on behalf of the governors, the Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, disclosed that they reviewed the security situation and agitations in the country and emphasized that the national meeting is imperative in view of widespread agitation across the country.
While affirming the commitment of comprising states to the unity of Nigeria, founded on justice, equity, oneness and peaceful coexistence for economic development of the country, the governors also called for bold steps to be taken for the restructuring of the country, review of appointments into federal government agencies, including the security.
Among other things, the governors, who pointed out that unhindered movement of armed herders poses huge security challenge and stalled productivity, announced ban on open grazing across southern states.
While calling for the President to address Nigerians on security challenges facing the nation, they asked the federal government to support states that are willing to develop modern livestock management system.
In view of the gridlock usually experienced on Apapa expressway, which has affected economic activities, the governors called for reactivation of ports in other regions, assuring of deepening cooperation among southern states.
