This afternoon I received a call from my relative that one Samuel Ukeni in company of other young men were pumping the tyre of their car at Anozie/Ojoto street Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt when a patrol van of Octopus Strike Force Police unit came there and conducted search on all of them and nothing was found. The Police unit started asking the young men were they came from and Samuel Ukeni was arrested when he said he is from Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA. The Police accused him of being late ‘Don Wayne’s boy.
The Police took Samuel to their cell at Ihedioha street Mile 2 Diobu and asked his friends to bring 50,000 naira .The friends who were rushing to a wedding at Buguma priced 10,000 naira the Police squad which was led by one ‘Two face’ refused officers refused and insisted on 50,000 naira.
A close relative who witnessed the scene reached out to Centre for Basic Rights and Accountability Campaign to help secures his release, As the CSO immediately swung into action and also reached out to the State Commander of the Octopus unit, who was the immediate past Commander of disbanded SARS in Rivers State CSP Juvinus Iwu.
He ordered for the immediate release of Samuel.
The unit commander thanked me for contacting him .
The truth is the unit commander are not always aware of what some of the personnel do in the field sometimes. That is the reason we advocate for close supervision and adequate monitoring.
