This 28-year-old Opeyemi Adeola Ganiyu, a welder, killed his mother-in-law, Abosede Oyewole, in Lagos because she threatened to take his wife, Tope, away.
He stabbed her during an argument.
Adeola was said to be fond of beating his wife, a nursing mother, at any slight provocation, and his mother-in-law went to warn him to stop beating her daughter.
On sighting her in his house, Adeola beat up the woman before stabbing her in the ribs with a knife.
Abosede later died at the hospital, and fleeing Adeola was arrested by the police.
Adeola told police he killed his mother-in-law by mistake.
He claimed he picked a knife in the room to scare her and others who came to pick his wife’s belongings, but the knife pierced her stomach.
‘I am sorry… It was a mistake. I love my wife Tope and will still marry her if I ever come out of this problem’, Adeola begged.
