Tragedy struck today as a trailer conveying petroleum products rammed into a mini Keke bus—at GVC junction along Eleme section of the West Road killing Four persons .
This is coming two weeks after the youths of the area blocked the road protesting dilapidated state of the road and demanding immediate repair works to begin at the worsening Eleme section of the East-West Road
An Eyewitnesses attributed the bad state of the road to the cause of the accident, saying the truck driver who was attempting to dodge a pothole swerved into the mini-bus and compressed the eight passengers including the driver of the mini- bus . as a result of the impact. The driver was said to have noticed the trailer very late, navigated only to head into a collision with it.
Three passengers, including the driver, were said to have lost their lives. Another eyewitness said that a three-year old baby, whose guardian saw the impending disaster before it happened, was thrown out of the vehicle, Leading to the loss of both her legs.
As at when visited the scene, the police and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) present had conveyed the bodies of the deceased to a morgue, as well as towed the damaged mini bus away from the bus stop.
