7 Months Unpaid Salary: Panic, Fear Grips Abia State University Community As 3 Lecturers Die Same Day

The  University community in Abia state are in panic mode as  they were thrown into mourning following the death of three lecturers of the institution same day.

The Three lecturers of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, who died same day were identified as

  1. Prof. A. I. Nwabughuogu of History/International Relations Department,
  2. Dr D. S. Okoroigwe of Geography/Planning Department,
  3. lecturer from the Department of Political Science, all died on Friday, September 3.

A close source who confirmed the sad incident claimed lecturers of the institution were suffering Economic hardships.

He said,  “We are being owed more than seven months’ salaries; the last time (we were paid) was January 2021.”

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University, Dr Victor Nkemdirim, confirmed the three deaths, describing the situation as unfortunate.

Efforts to reach a spokesperson for the varsity, Chijioke Nwogu, proved abortive, as his telephone line did not connect. A text message sent to him had yet to be responded to as at Press time
