The International Federations Of Women Lawyer FIDA Rivers State, says it is against the abuse of fundamental human rights under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law ACJL, where the Nigerian Police will arrest anyone in place of another person.
Acting Chairperson FIDA Rivers, Nnenna Igbokwe, who made this known while carrying out a sensitization campaign, at Udekama community, in Degema local government area, said it is pertinent for every individual to know their right and the various laws guiding the society, in order to protect themselves.
She emphasized that under the ACJL law, it is illegal for Police Officers to unlawfully arrest, intimidate, harass anyone or prevent an accused right to representation when making a statement.
Also, King Reuben Zachariah Amos, the Onu-Onyan-Ekein of Udekama Degema Kingdom, urged people of the state to embrace peace, as only peace would stop the crimes and social vices.
Some of the Udekama community people who spoke to our correspondent ANITA OGONA, called for enforcement and full implementation of the laws that protect the rights of citizens.
