Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Anderson Ephraim caught removing manhole on the Garrison flyover in Port Harcourt.
An eyewitness reported that the suspected thief, who was dressed like a mechanic, parked his car on the highway and pretended to be fixing a problem underneath the vehicle.
A police patrol team, which was suspicious of the car, stopped and caught him removing a manhole.
He was immediately arrested and taken to the nearby Garrison Police Station.
Police public Relations Officer Of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, also confirmed the arrest of the suspect.
He said in a telephone interview that “I was alerted this morning about the manhole thief who has been stealing manholes around the state capital, I have also asked them to transfer his case file to Moscow road (Headquarters) for further questioning and interrogations to ascertain if he has other gang members or involved in other crimes in the state.”
Recall that residents recently raised an alarm over the incessant stealing of manholes since the recent completion of the 8th flyover in the state capital, especially the Artillery’s Flyover that has a big ditch in the middle
