“kpofire” is the popular name for Illegal Refining or artisanal refining of stolen crude oil perpetuated by economic saboteurs
An eyewitness said over 20 shops have been burnt, together with the goods inside the shops and that no casualty has been reported even as the locals battled to put off the inferno using water and form
This is about the eighth reported fire incident in Rivers State, and the fifth said to have been caused by kpofire in less than two weeks.
Meanwhile, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who appeared on a national TV programme earlier in the day was silent about the alarming rate of fire outbreaks in the state, and the worsening black soot situation in parts of the state.
