The protesters had earlier in their numbers stormed the Sultan of Sokoto’s palace, setting up a bonfire near the building and demanding the release of the two suspects.

There is tension in some parts of Sokoto State as some youths protesting the arrest of two persons suspected to be involved in the killing of a female student, Deborah Samuel, for alleged blasphemy attacked some churches along Ahmadu Bello way in the state capital.
The protesters had earlier in their numbers stormed the Sultan of Sokoto’s palace, setting up a bonfire near the building and demanding the release of the two suspects.

Violent protest went on unchallenged in Sokoto State for hours and the army weren’t deployed to forestall escalation of destructions. Church structures have been brought down already: Catholic and ECWA. Shops were looted and property of innocent people razed. What’s the issue? That police arrested two men in connection to the killing of Deborah, a Christian lynched on the allegation of blasphemy.

One wonders if there are regional laws and conventions in Nigeria that the measures taken to curb crime in one part of the country is not taken in the other part. Ordinary plausible protest by students in the South East attract the presence of the joint security task force, but the worse such as the one under review happens in the North and security agents show concern of indifference. Even the statement of the presidency took an indifferent dimension.

It’s undoubted that the people of the South East own most of the businesses that were today destroyed which certainly will not attract any respite from the government. If government can be indifferent in a case such as this, it goes a long way to portray Nigeria as a directionless lever. Our armed forces only show force in the South East which has far less crime rate. Nigeria has overtime proven not to be a working system. The conjugation of the different parts of the country is proving to be at variance with our belief systems and modes of living.

Have those agitating for separation not proven right yet? Nigeria never had this bad.
