A 300-level Microbiology student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Tochi Attah, tragically collapsed and died while playing football near the Elmada Hostel area on campus on Monday.The deceased, popularly known as “T-Funds,” was the younger brother of Dr. Simon Attah, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State.
News of his passing was made public in a statement by Sabastine Aku, President of Useh Youths, on behalf of the Attah family and their community. The message expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called for comfort and strength for the grieving family.
“Tochi Martins, also known as ‘T-Funds Exchange,’ passed away suddenly while playing football. We pray for his soul to find rest and for his family to be granted peace in this difficult moment,” the statement read.
It was reported that Tochi had recently changed his academic focus from Microbiology to a medical-related course before the tragic incident.Confirming the event, UNIZIK’s Chief Safety Officer, Ken Chukwurah, stated that while Tochi was a registered student, he did not reside in Elmada Hostel. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
